After almost a whole month of excruciating trips to the internet cafe to do the most basic things, I'm finally back up. With a complete new dual core machine with all my data finally migrated after the power surge, life is good (and normal) again. Some finishing touches on configurations and drivers, and then I'm off to see Arcturus tonight.

Slave to Technology.
Three weeks without a PC has been more agonising, but in some ways more liberating than I could have thought.
On the one hand I've felt like Luke Skywalker would have felt after Darth Vader chopped his hand off: "how do I knit a jumper with one hand?". Not being able to check mail, news, political readings and music related things with any regularity has been really annoying. I feel totally disconnected from the world in some ways.
On the other hand, I've been catching up with my reading a lot more, and going out of the house a lot more (albeit, also getting bored much faster too though). I've been speeding through my Paul Keating book a lot faster, and thanks to a project that I devised at work, have been able to crush through 1/2 a Cisco manual in three days.
The PC-lessness has had its good and bad bits. Thankfully though, the longest time in 12 years of not having access to my own machine that is about to come to an end.
In a week or so, I will have built a new box, and will have a gorgeous new monitor to go with it, surpassing even my beautiful Hyundai ImageQuest 19 inch LCD, which now behaves like a fried egg.
I'm definitely counting down the days. Even more so because once this is over, I can concentrate on the really important goal: getting to Norway.

Death of my Beloved in a Flash of Lightning.
Last night, as Linda and I sat watching Dexter episodes on the PC, lightning flashed all around the area: a magnificent storm was in our suburb, and I snapped some great photos of it too.
For a few days prior though, we'd noticed our lights in the house dimming at random, and had asked our neighbours if they'd experienced the same. They hadn't.
This time, not only did the lights dim, but they also brightened to a considerable intensity. As we watched Dexter, I considered turning the box off.
During my thoughts as I pondered getting up and shutting down, it was already too late: my $500 Hyundai 19" inch LCD flashed white then black over and over, the sound stopped, and then the monitor hissed as smoke poured out of it and the PC shut down.
Holy fuck did I panic.
All the lights in the house glowed brilliantly, and then shut off.
We walked out of the unit, as did our neighbours. Everyone's TV's, PC's and misc appliances had exploded in some way. Outside, the rain fell, and lightning continued to flash.
As it turns out, we found during the rest of the night, Energy Australia's infrastructure outside our unit had failed, overpowering our building with 415w of power instead of 240w to each unit, frying our electricals and powe supply to the building.
Today, I took the day off work as the repairs were done. We now have power, but I had been anxious as to my data loss. I've heard too many horror stories of these kinds, so I pulled out my drives and wandered down the road to a friend's place, and chucked my drives into his machine.
My god, I am SO LUCKY. Not a single sector damaged, not a single Kb lost. Nothing. All my data, my music, documents, artworks, everything is still intact.
Now though, the claims to Energy Australia begin. For now, I am PC-less. The pain begins :(((

Ryan vs Dorkman II is out!
The three year wait is finally over!
Following the huge success of Ryan vs Dorkman, which won the force.net's lightsaber choreography competition three years back, Ryan Wieber, Michael Scott, together with Three In The Afternoon's extraordinare Travis Boles at the shooting helm have finally released the sequel, RvD2.
Shot this time in hi-def, the sequel brings even better choreography, a new warehouse set, sharper effects, original score, much more dramatics and humour to fan-made lightsaber films than ever before. I found myself gasping a few times in this one, and much like the original, the ending is a nailbiter! Fuck every other lightsaber duel out there, Ryan vs Dorkman II is the shit!
